Of all the things that New Zealand has to offer travellers, these were our top 10 experiences.
-
The Beaches Driving along the 90 mile beach (not actually 90 miles long) followed by some sand boarding at the beautiful sand dunes. Be careful not to crash out!
-
Maori Culture Visiting a Maori Village and soaking up the beautiful heritage including its culinary delights - do not miss the Hangi! There are villages on both the north and south islands.
-
The Caves A chance to explore what's underground. We took the adrenaline route and tubed through the Waitomo caves, complete with scary stories told by the guide, slides and backward leaps of faith over underground waterfalls.
-
The Water Taking in the sights whilst enjoying laid back kayaking and an adrenaline fueled speed boat experience. You can also sail, snorkel or dive. You don't have to be in the water to enjoy it - a Fjord cruise is thoroughly recommended.
-
Adrenaline Activities There's a lot to do to get the heart pumping. We did cave tubing, zorbing, high speed boating, and high rope courses. All thoroughly recommended. Take the leap and skydive or bungee - just watching terrified people make the leap is quite fun too!
-
The Culture Visiting Wellington's Te Papa Museum, admiring the Art Deco architecture, punting in Christchurch, soaking in the Scottish influence in Dunedin, taking a deep breath in Rotorua is just a small sample of what New Zealand has to offer.
-
Get Glacial Taking a walk on the ice was a great day out. Those brave enough took a dip in the small ice lakes that form on the glacier. For those too lazy to walk up the glacier, we recommend a ride on a helicopter to the top and enjoy the amazing views.
-
National ParksThere is no shortage of open spaces to explore on both islands. We got up close to "Tane Mahuta" God of the Forest in Waipoua Forest and enjoyed a scenic boat cruise in Abel Tasman then explore the park up close.
-
Nature Go wild in natures playground, from volcanoes to mountains, caves to kettle lakes. It's beautiful. Take a detailed look at our galaxy at Lake Tekapo's observatory, climb a glacier, swim with dolphins - get in there and become one with nature!
-
Eat, drink and be merry Each region has its own cuisine that is not to be missed. From great seafood to a Hangi, our bellies were well taken care of. There is also a huge variety of local wine and beer, should you get a little thirsty.
